Tata Motors, which on Monday began a pilot-run of its 9-meter electric bus in Assam, claimed it has become the first automaker to get Arai and homologation certifications for its 9-meter and 12-meter electric buses.

Earlier this year, Tata Motors held a trial run of the Ultra ELECTRIC 9m bus from Parwanoo to Shimla covering a total distance of 160km on a full charge. In another trial held in Chandigarh, the bus covered about 143km consuming 70 per cent of the full charge. With these trials, Tata Motors is preparing itself for the future as the Union ministry of transport has already announced its plan of full electrification of public transport in the country.

The trial run will last for seven days, the company said in statement. The company has already completed trials for these bus in Shimla and Chandigarh where these buses ran for 165 km and 143 km on a single charge, respectively.
